The Laser Procedure
The PICO Genesis laser procedure takes an entirely new approach to the treatment of skin pigmentation issues and revitalization. As the latest in aesthetic treatment, the PICO Genesis improves the appearance of unwanted freckles, age spots, and sunspots. This treatment method combines the benefits of two highly effective wavelengths in ultra-short pulses to cause a non-thermal, intense, photo mechanical disruption and remodeling of the upper dermis. This leads to a brighter, more uniform complexion in fewer treatment sessions than other more traditional methods. PICO Genesis is specifically used to treat:

How Does the PICO Genesis Treatment Work?
Everyone’s skin contains a substance called melanin, which is responsible for the pigmentation (color) of our skin. When melanin occurs in high concentrations in the upper dermis, it can result in brown spots and uneven skin tone. Traditionally, high-intensity laser treatments were not very effective at treating skin conditions due to the fact that pigment particles are very dense and often hard to remove. What’s more, high-intensity lasers rely on heat, meaning that they are often not optimal treatment methods for pigmentation issues. PICO Genesis uses concentrated, non-thermal laser light to selectively shatter unwanted pigmentation and remodel the upper layer of the skin to return balance, radiance, and clarity to your skin.
How Many Treatment Sessions are Required?
For most patients, a series of two to three PICO Genesis treatments are recommended to achieve an optimal outcome, and ongoing maintenance treatments are encouraged to sustain results over time. When you visit our clinic, we will discuss a treatment plan during your consultation so that you know how many sessions to expect in order to achieve the results that you desire.
What Can I Expect During Treatment?
Prior to treatment, we will clean the treatment area to make sure no oils or dirt interfere with the laser. As the laser energy is applied, you’ll feel a sensation that patients often compare to an “electric rain” sensation. Most patients do not find the treatment uncomfortable, but if you do, we offer a topical anesthetic to help numb the treatment area. Immediately after treatment, you may apply cold air or an ice pack for a short time in order to reduce any stinging. After treatment, you should keep the treated area out of the sun and/or apply sunscreen for protection if you do go out. Based on the results of the treatment, we may recommend follow up sessions to ensure that the treatment maintains the desired results.
Are There Any Side Effects or Downtime?
Most patients experience mild redness and swelling immediately following the PICO Genesis treatment. These side effects are temporary and typically resolve in several hours after the treatment has been completed. Over the course of a few days after the treatment, the treated sun spots and freckles will become darker and flake off as they heal, revealing a new, even complexion. Although you may experience mild redness and swelling for a few hours following the treatment, you can expect to return to your regular activities immediately following the treatment.
